Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has rejected calls from the UK and UK to build a more “inclusive” government in order to better fight an Islamist insurgency. The current government, dominated by the Shia majority, has marginalized the country’s minority Sunni population. This, in turn, has effectively driven some Sunnis into the hands of the militant group invading Iraq, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).
Between ISIS militants, Shia militias and feckless government troops, terrified Iraqis don’t know which way to turn. Almost two weeks ago, a man identifying himself as Tunisian posted Facebook videos and photos apparently showing his role in the execution of five detained Iraqi border guards. Tunisia should investigate these war crimes. With an expected 90,000 kids crossing the US-Mexico border without their parents in fiscal 2014, the US Congress needs to be exploring alternatives to what currently happens with these kids -- detention.Tajikistan plans to solve it's energy crisis by building the world's tallest dam -- a noble effort that will displace more than 42,000 people. Problematically, a new Human Rights Watch report shows that those who have moved report no longer having enough land to farm or to raise animals, and some live two hours away from the nearest schools.
